The kids and I were outside picking weeds in the backyard yesterday (when I say ‘we’ I mean ‘me’ of course) and Jonah found a butterfly. I watched him chase it around the backyard in absolute wonder for quite some time. Each time he almost caught up to it, it flew off again and he would start squealing and chase it again. Of course the best part was when it flew toward him and he screamed and covered his head in terror…. after which he would then look at me with his “scary” face – wide eyes, bottom lip stretched to reveal his entire bottom row of teeth – I’ll have to show it to you one of these days. It’s my favorite. I felt overwhelmed by the beauty of such simplicity. Could there be a more perfect moment?
Ezra just sat in his swing staring out at the world. Can you imagine what happens behind those fresh tender eyes? What aspect of this world is he processing? Is it complex or is it so profoundly simply that it would baffle even the wisest of humans?
I’m a mom. Holy cow.
